One Bar At A Time

Don’t let the size of a piece put you off.

Trying to learn a whole section of music at once is not all that easy – there’s a lot of detail for the brain to take in. This practice method makes that easier.

Select an individual bar and practice that bar for at least 3 minutes or until you have played it correctly several times. Once you have completed 3 minutes go onto the next bar and practice that for 3 minutes. It doesn’t matter if you can’t perfect each bar within 3 minutes – the important thing is that you have focused your mind and practise on a single bar for that time.

You can select any bar you like to use for this method. It can be different bars from diffferent pieces if you like or it can be adjacent bars from the same piece so long as you spend 3 focused minutes on them.
