Changes are afoot

The summer’s here, school’s out and it’s time to party!!!

. . . .well kind of. As well as being a great time of year to catch up on some much needed practice it’s also a chance to take a step back and gain some perspective. That’s exactly what I’ll be doing here at HTP over the next few weeks. I’m planning some changes to make the site more accessible, more useful and more relevant to you dear reader. Don’t worry though, updates will continue as normal so you can get your regular fill of practice

The most immediate change that you will notice some time during August will be a change of name from howtopractise to howtopractice. Yes, I know this isn’t grammatically correct for our English followers but it is an important change for the future of this site. The fact is that most searches and results are done for practiCe and not practiSe. To grow the site further the change of name is needed. Thankfully I did have the foresight back in 2006 to purchase so hopefully there won’t be too much disruption.

Some of the sections on the site (kotw is one example) do not get many visits at all. I’ll therefore be removing these and focus on bringing you more of the methods and resources that you do use.

Platform and Function
This site was platformed back in 2007 when the vision was to be all things to all musicians. There are a lot of community and social features which are simply not needed. These will be going in favour of a more streamlined set of functions. It’s also likely that we’ll move from Drupal to WordPress.

Look and Feel
I will be taking this opportunity to spruce up the design a bit – always a controversial move but I hope to retain the same basic layout and navigation.

If you have any comments on what you would like to see in future, what you currently like, what you don’t like I’d love to hear them. Please use the comments form below.
